Information on COVID

On 11th March 2020, the World Health Organisation / WHO confirmed that COVID-19, a form of coronavirus has now spread all over the world. This means it is considered as a pandemic.

Hospitals have adopted very robust infection control procedures. However, it is impossible to guarantee that you don’t catch coronavirus either prior to your hospital admission or once you are an inpatient.

We strongly recommend every patient to think carefully about the risks associated with the operation concerned, the risk of catching coronavirus during your hospital stay, and of not going ahead with the procedure at all. Your healthcare team will help you understand the pros and cons of these risks and benefits. It is extremely important to understand that if you catch the coronavirus, this could affect your recovery from surgery and might increase your risk of pneumonia and even death. We therefore strongly advice that you should talk to your healthcare team about the balance of risk and benefits between going ahead with your procedure versus waiting until the pandemic is over, the later could mean a wait of many months.

Please visit the world health organisation website for more information.
